Deutsches Museum

Deutsches Museum is a must see place in Munich. According to wikipedia it is the biggest science and technology museum in the world. You should walk this six floor museum with a map. You can buy museum tickets online here. We bought the tickets online but there was no queue at the entrance. So you can as well buy tickets at the entrance of the museum. In fact this was my second time in this museum; my first time was 14 years ago.
So I knew that we should have spent a whole day in this museum. There were big changes in the museum compared to my first visit. The museum was split into three different museums: Verkehrszentrum, Flugwerft Schleissheim and Deutsches Museum. In Verkehrszentrum, there are land vehicles and related objects. On the other hand, Flugwerft Schleissheim is about planes and related stuff. Since we didn’t have time for all of these museums, we only visited Deutsches Museum.
You can buy a combined ticket for these three museums; it is cheaper than buying separately. I remember from the first time slice of a plane; however this time it was not in its place. They must have moved it to Flugwerft Schleissheim. On the other hand sea vehicles part is still worth to see. There are hands on experiments in every section of the museum. You push a button and something starts to move. There is a small glass workshop, where you can watch live glass making and buy souvenirs.
When I came to this museum for the first time, I saw an illustration about how the internet works which was very interesting and enlightened me. This time, Enigma machine took my attention in informatics section. There is a small and quiet part in the museum which is about mathematics and geometry. In this part there are simple games, which are very enjoyable to solve. Our 4 years old son got pleasure from these games. By the way his performance during our visit was perfect. We got tired and he didn’t. Addition to that he didn’t get bored. He was very interested in the museum. He examined every detail, followed the route with his map in his hand. There is a big restaurant in the museum in which we had our launch which was very delicious. We couldn’t enter the planetarium and observatory sections because little children were not allowed to enter there. Lastly we entered the mine section in the basement, which I didn’t see in my first time. It was huge and perfect. It was a nice end to our visit. You really feel like inside a mine. Unless you are claustrophobic, I strongly recommend you to see this section. After walking for a while in this section, you forget that you are inside a building. I even started to think that there was a mine and they put a building on top of it. It was dark and damped. Before going out, we entered “Kid’s Kingdom”. It is a perfect place for children. There are huge Lego pieces, mirrors, a giant guitar. Our son also had great time in this section. To conclude I strongly recommend Deutsches Museum with or without kids.

An evening in Munich

In our first day in Munich, after settling to our hotel, we planned to have a dinner in the city center. Our first destination was Marienplatz which is the main square in Munich. Munich is not a big city, not a small one either. It has a very nice rail system. You can travel anyplace you like using u-bahn or s-bahn. Marienplatz was lively but not crowded in a saturday evening. Passing through small streets, our second destination was Hofbrauhaus. Since it was saturday, we couldn't find anyplace to sit or eat. The local Baverian band was singing and the crowd was joining the song, clapping hands. We passed by the crowd and got out to the garden. The weather was lovely in an October evening but still no place to sit. We looked for a place upstairs but no luck. We had to eat in somewhere else. Since we were hungry, we sat down to the nearest place which was Orlando - Haus. We waited for a long time but none of the waiters came. So we left the restaurant and looked for another plac...
